NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Director of Total Parish Faith Formation is responsible for the
following areas:
1) Preschool through 12th
grade religious education/faith formation,
2) LIFE program for high school students and
parents.
3) Sacramental Preparation for First
Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation.
4) Coordinate RCIA process
5) Adult Education and Formation
The director works closely with the
pastor, the parish Board of Education, Steering Committee and volunteers. The direct supervisor is the
pastor. Faith formation at
Assumption is rooted in our Catholic Tradition and recognizes parents as the
primary educators of their children and seeks to support them in this vocation.
I. SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP
- Seek the Lord daily in
prayer for perception of the programÕs goals, for guidance, and for the
spiritual health of the volunteers and staff
- Demonstrate by example and
attitude the integration of a God-centered lifestyle into the educational
process
- Provide the focus for
Catholic Christian emphasis by promoting the spiritual development of
volunteers and students
- Participate in Mass
regularly
II.
ADMINISTRATION
A.
The Director is accountable to the Pastor and
Board of Education
B.
Supervise all Faith Formation/Religious
Education programs and/or activities
C.
Develop programs accordingly, incorporating new
formats when needed
D.
Work with the finance committee representative
in developing the faith formation budget for the year
E.
Prepare the yearly faith formation education
calendar
F.
Maintain accurate records and files, including
attendance, permanent student records, and appropriate fees
G.
Preside over and conduct quarterly Faith
Formation Steering Committee meetings
- Meet with Principal,
Steering Committee and Parish Pastor to plan and coordinate religion and
educational programs into the whole parish
I.
Meet on a regular basis as member of Assumption
Parish staff
J.
Incorporate St. Cloud Diocese and Faith
Formation Steering Committee guidelines
K.
Follow the Diocesan guidelines for implementing
the sexual abuse policy, training, and appropriate background checking
L.
Designate and schedule office hours on a regular
basis.
M.
Other duties as assigned by Pastor
III.
FAITH FORMATION
- Responsible
for overseeing the administration of Religious Education classes (Grades
1-6), Junior High classes (Grades 7-9), including the recruiting, training
and empowering of volunteer educators for the different programs.
- Responsible
for the Confirmation Program, and LIFE (Grades 7-Adult)
- Collaborate
with Faith Formation Steering Committee in planning and implementing
ongoing programs for faith formation at the parish level, especially
adults
- Provide
information that will challenge families in their Faith Formation
- Develop
and present family activities, in conjunction with the liturgical year
- Direct
the catechists working in the RCIA process
IV.
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
- The
FFD shall follow the guidelines and regulations of the St. Cloud Diocese
regarding the reception of the Sacraments.
- Develop
and implement Family Sacrament Preparation Programs for First Eucharist
and Reconciliation and Confirmation and collaborate with the Pastor to
lead these sessions
- Collaborate
with Liturgy Director and Music Minister regarding sacramental
celebrations
V.
COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Attend
and participate in parish staff meetings, pastoral council meetings, Board
of Education Meetings and communicate current information relating to the
Faith Formation Department
- Handle
resolution of grievances of parents, staff and volunteers in a
confidential and Christian manner as established by the Board of Education
policy
- Promote
team atmosphere using creative techniques to foster a supportive and
encouraging environment for learning and personal spiritual growth
- Establish
communication with families through weekly parish bulletin and through
monthly Parent Update letter
- Establish
an appropriate method to communicate on a regular basis with St. MaryÕs
Principal and Newman Center Representative
- Use effective presentation
skills when addressing students, staff, parents, and the community,
including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals,
and articulate and audible speech
- Use excellent written and
oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and
colleagues
- Plan and organize the
Mass, program, and fellowship brunch for the parish high school senior
Baccalaureate celebration
VI. QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong
background in Parish Religious Education
- BA or
MA in religious education, theology, related field, or equivalent
experience
- Must
know and practice the Roman Catholic Faith
- Strong
interpersonal and communication skills with both adults and youth
- Proficient
in computers and technology
